Julie Key.

Biking To School

Many students enjoy riding their bikes to school. If this is something you are interested in doing regularly or from time to time, please complete the application for riding a bike to school, and review the list of safety rules and regulations. Forms are also available in the office.

However for their own safety, and per the district guidelines, only students in 4th and 5th grade may ride their bikes to and from school.

In the spring 3rd and 4th graders experience a two week biking unit.  During this time they can bring their own bike (and lock) and helmet.  If you have any additional questions please contact Mr. Sandbo

Health and Life Threatening Conditions

If your child has a life threatening health condition, specific requirements must be met before your child can attend school. Click here for more information.

Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours and not have vomited for 24 hours before returning to school. Children will not be kept in from recess due to sickness. If they are too sick to go out to recess they should stay home.

The PTSA is a great way to get involved. Click here is find out more and join our PTSA.

Kindergarten Registration

If your child is turning 5 on or before August 31st, you register your child by coming to the office or by following the steps on the Kindergarten registration in LWSD page.

Students eat lunch in our commons. Your child can either bring a lunch from home or purchase a school lunch. Every child has a lunch account. Lunch menus, fees, and the ability to add money to your child's account is available online. You may also write a check for lunch money and send it to the office.

All medications will need a doctor's prescription and a signed medical form available from the office. All medications include over the counter and prescription drugs. School staff are only allowed to administer medications that can be swallowed.

Next Time You Visit Campus

When you visit campus whether for a special school event, to volunteer, or pick up your child early it is important to sign in with the office. You will even get to wear a fun badge!

Parking Lot and Car Pick Up

Parking Lot

There are two parking lots and street parking available. The smaller one on the north side is mainly for staff. This is the parking lot where buses are loaded and unloaded. During these times it is blocked off, therefore it will probably be easier to park in the south lot.

The larger parking lot to the south is for general parking and car pick up. All car pick up students, for their safety, are gathered along the fence on the south end of the lot. As cars in line move through kids will be loaded into cars.

Understanding When There Are School Closures

In the Northwest weather can cause all kinds of problems. When an event does occur and school needs to be delayed or closed we will notify parents through School Messenger beginning at 6 a.m. on those days. The information will also be posted as a school alert on the home page of the school website, at, and on many local television or radio stations,

Volunteering at Sandburg

Volunteers are very important part of our school. If you would like to volunteer you will need to first fill out a volunteer application. You can either pick up an application in the office or fill one out online through the

Parent access page.

Wednesday-Early Release

Every Wednesday students are dismissed at 2:20. This time is used for training, collaboration, data analysis, and planning.

There are several crosswalks around Sandburg. There are instructional aides monitoring before and after school. In addition there are student Safety Patrol members helping. Please be very careful to keep your speed down and watch out for students.

You Probably Will Need a Jacket-Wet Weather

The Northwest is a wet place. Students will need to be prepared for rainy weather. In times of severe weather students will have an indoor recess.
