Dear Sandburg and Discovery Communities,

I am excited join the Sandburg and Discovery Communities as the principal of these wonderful schools. I look forward to getting to know and work with all of you soon. The reputation of both Sandburg and Discovery as places of strong teaching and learning, wonderful culture, and supportive community precedes the schools, and I am very humbled and honored to have been chosen to be a part of the family.

I believe strongly in creating a community of learning opportunities for all students and partnering together with families to make sure that all students receive a great education and are respected as part of our community.

By way of introduction, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in Utah and Nevada, earning my BA degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Reno. It was in Nevada that I began teaching. After moving to Colorado, I got an MA in English Literature at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and then taught high school English and Algebra before finding my true home teaching Elementary students. When my husband was transferred to Washington three and a half years ago, I said goodbye to my Colorado family and moved to Snohomish, where I have been working for the Snohomish School District as a Teacher on Special Assignment, leading literacy work and Title 1 programs for disadvantaged students K-6. I recently completed an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership at the University of Washington Bothell, and I am very excited to begin the next step in my career as an Elementary Principal.

On a personal note, I am married to a wonderful husband and together we have a son, Jackson, who has recently finished Kindergarten. We enjoy camping, traveling, and working on DIY projects around the house together. I am an avid reader, love crafting, and regularly get walked by my energetic dog, Aspen.

I could not be more delighted to be joining the Sandburg and Discovery families and to begin working with our incredible students, staff, families, and community! I invite you to stop in and introduce yourself, just to say hi and get to know each other, or to talk about anything important on your mind.
