Meet our Principal
Dear Sandburg and Discovery Communities,
I appreciate every day the opportunity to work as the principal of Sandburg and Discovery communities. I look forward to getting to know and work with all of you. Sandburg and Discovery are places of strong teaching and learning, wonderful culture, and supportive community and I am very humbled and honored to be a part of the family.
I believe strongly in creating a community of learning opportunities for all students and partnering together with families to make sure that all students receive a great education and are respected as part of our community.
By way of introduction, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in Utah and Nevada, earning my BA degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Reno. It was in Nevada that I began teaching. After moving to Colorado, I got an MA in English Literature at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and then taught high school English and Algebra before finding my true home teaching elementary students. When my husband was transferred to Washington three and a half years ago, I said goodbye to my Colorado family and moved to Snohomish, where I worked for the Snohomish School District as a Teacher on Special Assignment, leading literacy work and Title 1 programs for disadvantaged students K-6. I then completed an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership at the University of Washington Bothell, and I began the next step in my career as an Elementary Principal.
On a personal note, I am married to a wonderful husband and together we have a son, Jackson. We enjoy camping, traveling, and working on DIY projects around the house together. I am an avid reader, love crafting, and regularly get walked by my energetic dog, Aspen.
I love working with our incredible students, staff, families, and community! I invite you to stop in and introduce yourself, just to say hi and get to know each other, or to talk about anything important on your mind.
